Edit in Place: Wall Cleanup

I have highly customized my workspace to my specific needs.  I must now add the Edit in Place: Wall Cleanup panel to my ribbon.  I cannot understand how to use the CUI to achieve this. I do not want to reset AutoCAD to workspace defaults, as I will lose a large amount of customization.

Can someone step me through the CUI to restore just the Edit in Place: Wall Cleanup panel to my ribbon?

Much thanks.

This panel is what I need:

That ribbon tab is for Wall Endcap edit in place; Wall Cleanup edit in place is slightly different.

Do you have the Wall contextual ribbon tab in your highly customized workspace?  If so, do you still have the out-of-the-box contextual ribbon tabs for Edit in Place: Wall Endcap and Edit in Place: Wall Cleanup?  If so, you should be able to reassign these (along with the associated IPE Edit Merged Tabs) to the Wall Endcap Edit command in progress and Wall Cleanup Edit command in progress Contextual Tab States to restore this functionality.  See image below.

If you do not have those tabs, I can walk you through the process of creating them, although if you have access to the out-of-the-box ACA.cuix, it will be much easier to transfer them from that than to rebuild them from scratch.

Thanks for your willingness to help.

None of my default workspaces (Architecture, Design, Document, Detailing and Visualization) show a Wall contextual ribbon tab, probably due to my tinkering with them over time.

I work exclusively in the Design workspace which currently only shows an Express Tools Tab and Panels.

I saved a copy of the original ACA.CUIX on my computer shortly after installation and before customization.  It is renamed ACA_copy1.CUIX.

Out-of-the-box (as distributed in the US; content in other areas may vary), the ACA.cuix only has one workspace, Architecture.  You may have migrated the CUIX from previous versions, as the Design, Document, Detailing and Visualization workspaces were standard some time back.  Be that as it may, workspaces do not affect contextual ribbon tabs.  The question would be whether or not your current CUIX file has the necessary contextual tabs defined, and then whether or not they are assigned to the appropriate Contextual Tab State.

  1. At the Command: prompt, type CUI and press the ENTER key (or open the Customize User Interface dialog in any other way you prefer).  Refer to the image I included with my previous post.
  2. On the Customize tab, set the drop-down list at the top to All Customization Files (if it is not already so set) and expand the ACA (or whatever name you have given to your main customization file) node.
  3. Expand the Ribbon node under the ACA node, and then expand the Contextual Tab States node under that.
  4. Scroll down to find the Wall Endcap Edit command in progress and Wall Cleanup Edit command in progress nodes.
  5. Can these nodes be expanded?  If so, expand them and compare the assigned ribbon tabs to what is shown in my image.  Do they match?

Yes, I remember that I migrated an earlier user interface when I installed AutoCAD Architecture 2016.

OK, these expanded nodes are identical to your image.

The main customization file I am working with, ACA.CUIX, is not the out-of-box file however.  Is this going to be an issue ?

I probably can't check in again until after the holidays.

It should not be an issue.  With an emphasis on the "should", since there is apparently some issue.  Time will tell on that front.

The next thing to check is what panels are assigned to the tabs that are assigned to contextual tab states.  Expand the Tabs node under the Ribbon node and look for the tabs that were listed for the contextual tab state(s) of interest.  Expand those to see what panels are assigned.

Are the panels assigned the same as in my image?

If so, I was going to suggest expanding the Panels node, and looking for the Panels, to make sure that the definitions exist, and have the proper tools assigned, but I found that the "IPE" panels shown above are not shown under the Panels node.  Perhaps they are hidden, so that end users cannot mess with them and possibly cause problems with the contextual ribbon tab functionality.  I will see if I can dig something up on this.

Picking this up again after the holiday break works for me.  I will be around; I am not going to AU this year.

One other question:  Do any of the contextual ribbon tabs work for you, when using the migrated ACA.cuix?  If you select a Wall, do you get the Wall contextual ribbon tab?  If you double-click MText, do you get the Text Editor ribbon tab?

The expanded nodes in my CUI are identical to your image.

Yes, selecting a wall invokes the Wall Ribbon Tab (General, Cleanup, Endcap, Modify, Parametric)

Yes, double clicking an Mtext invokes the Text Editor Ribbon Tab.
