Drawing objects of different Z Elevation problems

I am working building a multi level (floor) project. I have defined all the floors as different level. I am drawing the structural elements for the building (columns and beams). When I model the beams on the ground floor it works fine. But when I try to do it on other floors the beams still snap to ground floor level or some other random z elevation. I do change the level for elevation offset and turn on replace z value with current elevation and set z offset to 0, it will either snap to ground level or other random elevation.

Based on your description it sounds like you are using the project navigator.  Are you creating a construct for each level of framing?

Yes I am using Project Navigator. I am modeling beams and columns in a single construct.

I notice that if I hold my pick button a little too long (drag) then the beam will snap at odd elevations.  This happens primarily when place on object is selected with edge mode.

If you find this happening, try drawing a polyline for layout purposes and then convert to beam.

I will try this out. for now I have created separated constructs for each level so this seems to be helping. We have been using AutoCAD LT and are trying out full AutoCAD to check out how much time we can save and if possible automate all our BOQ calculations.
