dimensions changing

I was wondering if someone can help me - I have Revit on students computers and everytime we start drawing walls - revit changes the measurements as you go ....I have to keep escaping and changing measurments manually for each wall.  It is driving me crazy.  Does anybody know why

That is a basic Revit fundamental.  If it drives you crazy, then you have two choices.  Use a different software or learn why it does what it does.  Get a good Revit textbook for your students that walks you through its methodology.
