Detail Component Properties

Hi Can someone help me please. I am using Autocad Architecture 2017 and trying to learn about Detail Components. The video I have been watching shows the properties palette with a Basic tab which allows for changing the elements. I cannot seem to get the same properties palette. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, installed the program on another computer yet cannot seem to get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not have 2017 installed on the machine I am currently using, but it works for me in 2016.

You are selecting one of the tools on the Basic palette in the Detailing Tool Palette Group, correct?  That should start the _AecDtlCompTool command and provide a prompt for your next action and, possibly, some command options, at the command line.  (That command will only work when run from a detailing tool palette tool.)  Are seeing _AecDtlCompTool in the command line history, and getting a prompt at the command line?

The properties palette(CTRL+1) never had a "basic" tab.  That is the name of a tab of the "Tool Palettes" (CTRL+3) in the detaling mode.  If you don't see the Basic tab, then right click on the tool palettes title and choose "Detailing". If you don't see the detailing option, then you may be in another profile or launched ACA as ACAD.

Both of your images show the properties palette in the mode of placing a detail item.

You can also invoke the dtlcompmanager either by right clicking on any tool on the detailing tool palette or by starting to key the command in.  Autocompletion will finish it for you.  Not all detail components are available on the palettes.

Doug is spot on, I missed seeing you refer to a Basic tab on the Properties palette.  The image below shows the Tool Palettes on the left, with the out-of-the-box Detailing Tool Palette Group and the Basic Tool Palette current.  The 03 - Concrete tool has just been selected, and the Properties palette on the right shows what the Design tab looks like while the command behind that tool is running.

Thank you for all your input, appreciated. I started with the dtlcompmanager  inserted a component inserted it on the page and pressed escape because the focus was still on inserting another component. When I pressed Esc the properties palette went back to the normal palette I hadn't realised that when the inserted component was alive the properties palette allowed for changing the elements. thank you all once again for your input
