commands not accepted

hello-

i have autocad arch 2011. all of a sudden my commands aren't working properly. for example--i used to be able to select an object and type m for move and carry on with my command. however, now it forces me to type my command first, then pick my objects. other things are acting peculiar as well. in my current drawing i can't change the layer of an object. i had to draw a line on the layer i wanted and match properties. i've restarted my computer and in a new drawing the first command works how it used to and then it's all down hill from there. any insight would be much appreciated.

thanks.

You may have already tried this, but the noun/verb selection box may be un-checked under the selection tab of the options.

The noun/verb check box reflects the status of the PICKFIRST variable.  0 = box not checked = you must enter command first; 1 = box checked = you can select items first and then enter the command.
