Broken keynote block somehow...

Hello everyone,

I have a block, multileader key not block with a tagnumber hexagon block to be specific, that is broken somehow and will not work only in one sheet out of the many sheets I have the same keynote tag insterted.

I am working in AutoCAD Architecture 2016 and keynoting my demo sheets, I have about 11 total sheets and in one of them for some reason the block will not let me edit it or do anything to it. whe I insert ir ether from the ribbon or copying annd pasting from a different sheet comes in blank and nothing happens when I double click to edit the its attribute. Any ideas of what might be happenign or if I'm doing something wrong? I have psoted some images to show the sceneraio. I hope this i make any sense

 Thanks everyone!

Any chance that the drawing in which nothing shows had a block definition with the same name as the one used by your multileader, but defined differently in some way?  Possibilities include:

  • No attribute to show the note number.
  • Has an attribute, but the attribute definition is set to be invisible.
  • Has an attribute, but on a different layer, and that layer is frozen or turned off.
  • Has an attribute, but the text is really, really small; really really large or offset far, far away from the hexagon and block insertion point.

Thanks a bunch for your reply. I have checked your list of possibilities and non of them seem to be the reason, I have purged the drawing and made sure that there is nothing else that could create a conflict with this block. once I insert the block and try to edit its attributes by double clicking or running the edit attribute command will allow me to edit it, comes back saying "That block has no editable attributes." which is weird cause its only in this DEMO SHEET and not in any other DEMO or FP sheets

You are quite welcome.  And, since I forgot to say so in the previous post, welcome to the discussion groups!

When you purged, first delete any and all instances of the attributeless version of the block?

In the Purge dialog, did you then just look at blocks being purged?  If so, did you select the View items you cannot purge radio button, and then verify that the block definition for your demo notes was purged?

If you did not verify that the demo notes block was purged, do so.  If there are no instances and the block is on the "cannot purge" list, try purging the Multileader Style that references that block definition (if you have more than one, purge them all).  Can you now purge the rouge definition?

An alternative to going to great lengths to purge the bad block definition would be to open the problem file and open another file that has a good block definition, with an editable attribute.  Set the problem file as the current drawing.  Now open DesignCenter (CTRL+2), and select the Open Drawings tab.  In the left sash, find the name of the drawing with the good block definition and expand it (if necessary) by clicking on the "+" sign at the left side of the file name.  Under the good file name, select the Blocks node.  On the right side, find the good block definition, right click and select Redefine only from the context menu.  That should redefine the block definition, giving it an editable attribute.

Any newly placed instances of the block (or Multileader Style) should now have an editable attribute.  If you have attributeless instances in the file, running the ATTSYNC command, selecting one of the instances and then saying Yes to synchronize the attributes should add the attribute to all of the existing instances.
