Im doing some tutorials online and the teacher is using Autocad 2014 and in the ribbon toolbar for layers it has different tabs for color, linetype and so on.

Now Im using Autocad 2017 and I only have the main layer tab not these seperate tabs..And I need to draw in a layer and have it be a different then what the layer color is. I dont want to change the layer color.

What can I do??

Hi,

what you show as AutoCAD 2014 screenshot does not show a ribbon, the ribbon here is disabled. The layer/color/linetype/... comboboxes are toolbars.

For AutoCAD 2017 and ribbon you would see the settings here:

The difference between your screenshot and mine is that I'm using AutoCAD 2017, you are using AutoCAD Architecture 2017. As I don't have Architecture I can't say where to enable that additional ribbon contents. It might be another workspace shows them.

If nothing helps you can add the toolbars by using that statements in the commandline:

_-TOOLBAR<ENTER>

PROPERTIES<ENTER>

SHOW<ENTER>

The ACA.cuix file that ships with AutoCAD Architecture 2017 does not include any toolbars, and it also does not have preconfigured ribbon tabs/panels for all of the layer- and object-property related ribbon tools/controls that the ACAD.cuix has.

What tools are available out-of-the-box in AutoCAD Architecture can be found on the Home ribbon tab, on the Layers panel (including the flyout).  The tools/controls are there; you could create your own custom panel that has these and add it to a new or existing ribbon tab, if you are so inclined.  Or you could try to transfer the panels from the ACAD.cuix file.  I would recommend setting up a custom CUIX file of your own, loaded as a partial CUIX, for any transfers or custom ribbon tabs/panels.  That will make it easier to bring them forward to a new release, and also easier to back up.

Hi- are there any how-tos you could provide as to how to custom add the layers properties manager back into the panel? I'm at a complete loss as to how to manage without it. Thanks!

You may find this blog article and the Screencast embedded therein of interest.  Its from 2015, but the process has not changed.
