ACA 2013 crashes if I click the ribbon.

Since the release of .NET 4.7, Windows 10 Updates keeps installing it. When it does, AutoCAD crashes when I touch any button on the ribbon.
I have worked around this by simply uninstalling the .NET 4.7 update and rolling back to .NET 4.6.

AutoCAD began crashing again a few days ago. I checked my .NET version and it's still 4.6. So, it's not the .NET 4.7 issue. My guess is some new Windows update has fouled something up. ( I hate auto updates in Windows 10)

I am running Windows 10 Pro, 1607, build 14393.1593.

AutoCAD Architecture version 7.0.206.0

I know AutoCAD 2013 is old, but is there any chance it will see an update to keep it usable on current Windows OS? Any clue as to any work-arounds to keep it rolling?

Thanks!

Welcome to the community!

As noted here:  https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Windows-...

Autodesk does not support 2014 and older versions of AutoCAD and AutoCAD-based verticals.  With the release of the 2018 products, the 2014 and earlier products are no longer officially supported.  I would not expect to see any updates for AutoCAD Architecture 2013 for Windows 10 compatibility.

Have you tried starting AutoCAD Architecture by right-clicking on the desktop icon and choosing Run as administrator from the context menu?  Does doing so stop the crashing?  That can bring on its own issues, but it may allow the program to run on Windows 10.  Perhaps others with more experience trying to run 2013 products on Windows 10 will reply with additional advice.

Yeah, I noticed that article subsequently. Confirmed what I already assumed. 2013 is OLD. 😄

I never had any trouble with ACA 2013 on Windows 10 until fairly recently when .NET 4.7 was released. I had already found that this was a common, breaking problem and I'd eventually be out of luck.

What confused me here was that according to the registry, I'm running .NET 4.6. Which before, that allowed ACA to run fine. But, it's crashing exactly the same way it did when 4.7 was installed. Very weird.

Running as admin or with different compatibility modes does nothing to help. It's a completely breaking compatibility issue with recent Windows updates that will eventually render everything from 2014 back useless on Windows 10. Unfortunate, but apparently very true.

Looks like I'll need to play around with a VM or something and run Windows 7 or 8.

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

It looks like @David_W_Koch provided a good explanation of why you're encountering issues with ACA 2013 and Windows 10 (that version of the software isn't compatible with Windows 10). Did his explanation point you in the right direction?
