2018 and newer opens and saves 2017 and older file with no warning!

I've had this problem occur twice in our office where we no longer can open a file in 2017 cad because it was saved by a 2018 or newer cad somehow (maybe just one small consultant caused the problem). Both times we had to downsave the file through teamviewer which ruins the dwg. Today we got 2019 on a new computer and I went to see what happens if I create a 2017 file and open and save it in 2019. Not only is 2017 no longer able to open the file again but there were ZERO warnings that 2019 was about to destroy a 2017 file! HOW CAN AUTODESK ALLOW THIS?! I read in other forums about this topic that a serious warning appears but not for me. This means anyone in the office could unknowingly destroy an entire set of dwgs by opening and saving in 2018 or newer! How is this acceptable?

AutoCAD 2018-2019's default SAVE/QSAVE/WBLOCK is the newer 2018dwg file format. are you not aware of that?

OR... are you not aware that since AutoCAD 2004/ADT2004 when a DWG file format changes (2-years now) that ACA AEC content is upgraded and locked out of lower ACA versions? AutoCAD/adt2004 came out in the year 2003, 16-years ago.

If I misunderstood your post then please explain your "surprise" with this stock behavior when a dwg file format changes in AutoCAD/ACA.

Is this the dialog you were expecting?2019-01-21_ACA2019_PreviousVersionAECObjectsDetected.png

Perhaps someone has a dislike for nag dialogs and checked the Do not show me this message again toggle.  I am no fan of nag dialogs, but I always leave this toggle unchecked, because I want to be nagged if I accidentally open a prior-format file, so that unless I am intentionally upgrading the file to the new format, I will be reminded to close the file without saving and then re-open it in the appropriate version.

2 years? 2013-17 had one file format so for the last 7 years, I personally haven't had to worry about file save formats

My test was done on a brand new install of 2017 and 2019 on a brand new computer and I received no warning.  Maybe my settings somehow carried over when I logged into my autodesk account? If that's the case how do you get the prompt back?

ACA2018 is when the format was changed: Now we have ACA2019. Two years.

2013-2017 was an exceptionally long time between dwg-format changes for Autodesk, they used to be only 3-years apart: now you know.

2018-2019 (possibly 2020 in April)
2013-2017
2010-2012
2007-2009
2004-2006
2000-2000i-2002
and before that it was annual:
14
13
and so on.

Now you know: there is no fix except to move project teams to 2018-2019 ACA as soon as you can since you've saved those files already.
