Offline File lost when syncing and Downloading Issues

Hello, this post is about a lost file I had been working on on AutoCAD 360 on my iPad and a desperate need of getting it back. Here the details: After I had been working with the AutoCAD 360 app on the iPad for 2 days on an important job abroad I came back to the office and tried to get the offline version of the file I had been working on synced back to the cloud and ultimately to my PC hard drive. First of all, the file did sync back into the cloud at various times as I was working with it (the iPad was actually online the whole time), but not all the way until the end of the job. At some point the syncing had stopped and the latest version that got synced to the cloud is a day older than the latest version I had on my iPad. Second, any attempt to get the final offline file to appear on the cloud was unsuccessful. It did not sync automatically to the latest version, even when connecting the iPad to the internet again back in the office. So I duplicated the file on the iPad, which gave me the so created copy both on the iPad and on A360 Drive, but that copy was always of a much older version than the parent file, they did not match. I had been able to get an up to date online version of the offline file with this 'duplicate' process after the first day of the job, but that was obviously a workaround for the automatic syncing problem and unfortunately that did not work again when I tried it back in the office. Then, at one point during my attempts to get the offline file to be accessible from my PC, the App gave me a message saying that changes were made to the online version while I was working on it offline and if I would want to update my offline file or 'not now'. Afraid that I'd lose my offline file I kept choosing 'not now', but as I was not able to access the file from the iPad no matter what I tried, I ended up choosing 'update' in the end. I was of the impression that that would be safe to do as the help text for this action says that when I chose 'update' the online version will be synced to the iPad, but the iPad version would be saved in the file history as a version that can be accessed, downloaded or restored via the web interface. But the latest version of the file which I had on my iPad is nowhere to be found on A360 Drive. At least I think it isn't, because I have not been able to download older versions of a file for checking as I always get directed to a blank page with some random string of characters in the top left corner and no download is initiated. I really need to get the latest version of this file back and I really need your help with this. 1. Where is my file that I had on the iPad? 2. why can't I download files and versions thereof from A360 drive? Please tell me if you need any other information to solve this, I am looking forward to hearing back from you.

There is still something of an issue with the sync feature between A360 and AutoCAD360.

Unless you actively deleted it somehow, a copy of your file ought to be in the AUTOMATIC COPY folder in the AutoCAD360 web cloud.

Hello pendean,

thank you for your suggestion.

It is really important that I get the file back somehow, it contains the results of two days work abroad, involving a number of people and a considerable effort on logistics. It should have synced to A360 drive.

just to confirm: is the "AutoCAD360 web cloud" the same as "A360 Drive"?

If yes, there is no copy of the file I am looking for in the 'automatic copy' folder. In fact, no files seem to have been copied to that folder for weeks.

The only copies that I see are those in the 'Versions' list which I get in the old A360 drive. Only those I can not download to check, because when I try I only get taken to a new page with a random string of characters in the corner and no download is initiated. Quite frustrating, this.

Are you able to access files/versions/copies that may/should have been created during the syncing process that are maybe not visible to me?

Can you get me access to the versions of the files on my drive so I can check if one of them is the one I am after?

Hello pendean, I looked at these three, whatever the difference is: 1. new A360 drive 2. old A360 drive 3. AutoCAD 360 web. In general I see the same content in each of those (I only have got three drawings there and the folder 'Automatic Copy'). 'Automatic Copy' does contain something, but it's only one drawing that is months old and that I had deleted from the top level of the online storage, and supporting files, such as fonts. But nothing in the 'Automatic Copy' folder is related to the file I had been working on last week. The only difference between those three storage locations is that: 1. in the new A360 drive I see versions of the files (i.e. versioning, meaning older versions of the files I work on, saved at different times. I have not yet figured out what causes a new version to be saved in that file history, maybe when I re-open the drawing on the iPad?) 2. in the old A360 drive I also see older versions of the files, but more versions than I see in the new A360 drive 3. in AutoCAD 360 web I do not see any older versions. So in order to see if I can recover the file version that I lost I want to look at the versions that are shown in the old A360 drive, but I can not download them, due to the problem with downloading things from there. How can I get copies of those versions downloaded??

The developer team will have to help you retrieve the files then: contact them here feedback@autocad360.com

Hi @Coooper,

Issues with syncing data collected while being offline, are currently being investigated. We know how serious it is to lose data, and do everything in our power to fix these kind of issues.
The latest iOS version (V4.0.13) already contains a number of serious improvements, that should solve a large part of the offline syncing issues, so I highly recommend on updating the app's version, to avoid such issues in the future.

We're already examining your drawings, and we'll be updating you via email.

Thanks,
