ASSOCIATING DIMENSIONS WITH LAYER

Ive started a new job drawing cabinets, the system these guys are using is WAY before annotative scaling.

ive started adjusting my template to streamline my workflow.

ive just created myself an annotative dim style. it works great, all my dimensions and quick leaders are scaling appropriately.

previously we had dim styles at all of the common scales that we used. so i would change the layer and the dim style to be the same

eg: dimstyle called 1:10 on layer called 1:10

dimstyle called 1:20 on layer called 1:20

            etc etc....

this way i could turn off dimensions on that layer if i needed to show a detail section in a different viewport,  without having a bunch of unwanted dimensions cluttering my viewport.

now that im using an annotative dim style they are all placed on the current layer.

is there a way to associate the annotation scale with a layer??

thank you for your time in advance.

I don't believe it is possible to associate different annotation scales to different layers.

However, using annotative dimensions should negate the need to have them on different layers.

In different scaled viewports the correct scaled annotation should be visible and the other(s) not.

That is the prime purpose of annotative objects.

You're a superstar!

i hadnt even got as far as the layout page to see what happens!

it does EXACTLY as you say

only shows me the dimensions that are relative to the viewport scale.

thats awesome. ive only been using autocad for 3 months and im totally blown away. i cannot beleive how powerful the program is.

thank you very much.
