2D Polyline vs. Polyline

What is the difference between a "2D Polyline" and a "Polyline"?

Thanks in advance!

Nothing. The difference comes between polyline and 3D polyline. A 3D
polyline may have a different elevation (z value) for each vertex; a plain
(2D) polyline or LWpolyline must all lie in the same plane.

one is lightweight (optimized) which helps in keeping file size down, the other
is heavyweight (traditional)

Is there a way to convert lines between 2d to just normal polylines,
and which one is which? Is the optimized one the 2d and the
traditional one the "polyline" or is that backward? Thanks again!
