Quantity Property not recognizing a custom Length property as Length

I am publishing a sprinkler system DWG file to Assemble using Navisworks. The file was created with HydraCAD and exported as an NWC. The length property from CAD exists in inches under a specific property tab called "HydraPipes HydraCAD". When I published this to Assemble, the length is there as a property, but I can't change the Quantity field to show Length, it only gives me the option for Count (EA).

I need the Quantity field to show Length for the way my PowerBI dashboard pulls data from Assemble and calculates information.

I tried to create a custom property in Navisworks using the Datatools feature, which worked and I now have a new tab in Navisworks called "Element" with property "Length (LF)" for each piece. This property also shows up in Assemble after publishing. However, I am still unable to change the Quantity field to show this value.

Is there something to configure in the property settings in Assemble which would allow for the Quantity field to read this as a length?

@kmreyesARKCN I have to deal with HydraCAD dwgs quite a bit myself. There is a workaround for this issue (or any issue where dwg piping has a length property that isn't recognized by Assemble as a legit quantification property.

in this particular instance, I would first recommend you to create a custom Length Property in Assemble (for example, you could call it "Length DWG" so that it's easily distinguishable. Then you will need to download the Assemble Class editor from https://assemblesystems.com/resources/ (it's free).

Once you open that program, you can select a single run of pipe. Hit the "properties" button and select the length property that is in linear inches. after doing so, you can use that property to create a calculated value that maps to the new custom assemble property you just created. If linear inches, you will just hit the purple calculation button, and it will insert the length property from the model that you have selected. Then you will just need to type in "/ 12" (without quotations) in order to get LF.

You can hit the green checkmark to run the calculation, and if it looks good then you can hit the calculator button to run that calculation on every object in the view that has the linear inches property. I have attached a screenshot for reference.

This is definitely a useful tool for adding bulk properties!

Working out of Navisworks, I found a bit of a workaround for getting the LF quantity from inches using DataTools but the Assemble Class editor is definitely more direct than that.

My main issue is that Assemble isn't recognizing this as a length property which I can show under the Quantity column. Does Assemble Class editor have that capability? Working on downloading now.

@kmreyesARKCN by creating the custom length property where you will then map the Linear Inches to LF conversion Calculation in Class Editor, Assemble will be able to recognize your new custom property as a proper quantification property and will allow you to set it as such for all the FP piping.

Please note that when you create the new property, you will need to make it's type "Length" and not "Text" for the quantification to work.

WOW that's pretty straightforward. Thanks I've been trying to figure this out for ages!
