Clear browser cache to resolve Assemble issues

Issues may arise within the Assemble web application, especially after upgrades and maintenance outages, that can be resolved by clearing the browser cache. In general, you may want to make a practice of clearing your browser's cache often, and even more so if you don't regularly shut down your machine every day. Assemble Systems recommends clearing your browser cache AT LEAST after every Assemble upgrade.

Why is this important?

The browser cache is a temporary storage location on your computer for files downloaded by your browser to display websites. When you revisit a website, the browser checks which content was updated in the meantime and only downloads updated files or what is not already stored in the cache. This reduces bandwidth usage on both the user and server side and allows the page to load faster. Sometimes, cached versions of a website can cause issues, for example when the browser does not download a fresh copy, even though the site was updated since last caching it.

To clear your browser's cached images and files

  1. Update your browser to a current release.

  2. Close any browser tabs showing the Assemble web application.

  3. Press Control + Shift + Delete on your keyboard to clear your browser's cached images.

  4. After clearing the cache, restart your machine and re-launch the Assemble web application.

Here are some ways you can try to fix your caching problem, in order of escalation:

  • Try holding down the Shift key while pressing the Refresh button.

  • Close your browser and re-open it (make sure you are NOT on the cached page) and delete your temporary Internet files (clear your cache). For instructions on clearing your cache, see the section below "How to clear the cache in commonly used browsers":

    Internet Explorer

    Microsoft Edge

    Mozilla

    Safari for Mac

    Safari for Windows

    Google Chrome

    Opera

    Restart your computer.

  • Use an alternative URL for the same location. For example, if you are going to www.yourdomain.name, you might go to your IP address instead. If you don't know any alternative URLS, ask Technical Support to provide you with one. Be sure to tell them exactly which URL you are using.

Clearing your browser cache is crucial for resolving issues in Assemble. It's recommended, especially after upgrades. The cache stores website data, and clearing it ensures you get the latest updates and avoid potential problems caused by outdated information.
