Default file type when exporting vectors

Default file type when exporting vectors

It would be a good idea to change the default file type to last used when exporting vectors (now it's set to first according to alphabet). This would save some time performing this operation many times a day.

Would you want to extend this to when exporting the view, bitmaps, reliefs, triangle meshes, assembly items, and toolpaths from ArtCAM? In addition, would you want to extend this to when opening and importing files in ArtCAM? Please confirm.

@Gary.B, @MichaelBuckley1@jmcpeek@ewshp, @Anonymous, @Anonymous & @mmarchHRJ7T - I'd be interested to know your thoughts on this idea too.

Thanks in advance for your time and cooperation.

Dillon, In regards to myself and other companies that I deal with there is generally a common work flow with the transit of data in and out from client into our workspace and then back out again. Having ArtCam remember what was done previously would speed up peoples workflow. I don't want you to limit any options but if I did something in a previous session dealing with import and export then more than likely I will be doing it again.

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts @jmcpeek. Smiley Very Happy

The Development team would be seeking to improve the workflow by implementing this change, so I wanted to take the opportunity to check if there were any particular cases where you would not want to store the previously selected file type when importing and exporting.

Honestly Dillon I do not think that there isn't anything that I want to automatically default back after I have used it previously. Once you get your setup and routines going it is by nature something you look to continue with for the rhythm of it. Only when you are trying to setup a work flow do you flip over the options multiple times. Example is that I rarely ever export a file out as a 3DA, mostly because my files aren't always used in ArtCam, I rarely ever save as a STL either, mostly go straight to OBJ and my save image is always 3D PDF. If I need a screen capture I use windows snipping tool to capture, the image file from the ArtCam is less than desirable. Hope that helps

I tend to agree to jmcpeek.

Dillon,

It would be a good idead as i think most of us have a well defined workflow from vector creation/importing to toolpaths.

If i look at my workflow i am always importing vectors under the same format : EPS (in this case it seems the default choice for importing is set to "All Supported Files type" so file listing always shows the correct type.)

When using the triangle mesh tool, i am always exporting as DMT (or directly copying to clipboard) to be further processed in PowerSHAPE

For toolpaths, i now have a set of templates (huge time saver) and i have deleted every post-processors included in ArtCAM so that i can only see the custom PMOPTZ for my machines. Overall having the possibility to set a default on each importing/exporting tools would be a time saver.

Seems a sensible idea to me. I agree with what people have said here.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous, @ewshp@mmarchHRJ7T,

Many thanks for your feedback. I will pass this along to the Development team.

I think @Anonymous, @mmarchHRJ7T and @ewshp have pretty well summed it up

Hi @Anonymous, @jmcpeek@mmarchHRJ7T@ewshp @Gary.B, @Anonymous, @Anonymous & @rchampagne,

When working in Autodesk ArtCAM 2018.2.0 Build: 2017-12-07-1854-b336f4842, your chosen file format is stored when importing and exporting.

This functionality is documented here in the online help for the Autodesk ArtCAM 2018 product range.

Details of the new improvements and fixes included in the Autodesk ArtCAM 2018.2 Update are listed here.

Kind regards,

Dillon Moulder
