I tried ArtCAM 2016 and was unable to open old projects. I was told that this would be changed in the 2017 version.

Can you confirm this, please?

I have been off of the forum for quite some time now. (Too busy working to play around on the internet)  Now that I have returned, I find that all things have changed.  Is there a new release of Jewelsmith?

There is no ArtCAM 2016 release available.

What version and build of Autodesk ArtCAM 2017 are you working in? To confirm this, select the Help > About Autodesk ArtCAM menu option in your ArtCAM software. For example, Autodesk ArtCAM Standard 2017 Service Pack 5 (build 270).

If you encounter an error or warning message when opening ArtCAM Model files (*.art) or ArtCAM Project files (*.3dp), please attach a screenshot of the message when replying to this post; you can use Autodesk Screencast to create and share it.

In addition, please attach a sample file that you are unable to open so that we can try to reproduce your reported issue.

As previously mentioned here, ArtCAM JewelSmith is not part of the Autodesk ArtCAM 2017 product range, and has been discontinued; this is confirmed here in the Autodesk Knowledge Network.

All of the functionality associated with ArtCAM JewelSmith 2015 R2 is included in Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017, with the exception of KeyShot and POV-Ray support; Luxion KeyShot is not bundled with the free version of Autodesk ArtCAM 2017, Autodesk ArtCAM Standard 2017 or Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017. That said, Luxion KeyShot can still be used alongside Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017 using the method described here.

Therefore, Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017 can be used for the design and manufacture of jewellery in exactly the same way as ArtCAM JewelSmith 2015 R2. You can compare the different products in the Autodesk ArtCAM 2017 product range here.

Sorry, I assumed it was called 2016. It was a previous version.

I would like to convert old ArtCAM files into STL files (or something that will work) for rendering in 3ds Max as a proof of concept.

In the last version I was not able to open them. I was informed that opening old files was disabled.

It sounds like this will be possible in the new verison. I will try it.

The ArtCAM 2015 R2 product range was released by Delcam prior to Autodesk releasing the ArtCAM 2017 product range. The ArtCAM 2015 R2 product range has been discontinued; you might find this article in the Autodesk Knowledge Network article useful.

What version and build of ArtCAM do your ArtCAM Model files (*.art) or ArtCAM Project files (*.3dp) originate from? Please select the Help > About ArtCAM menu option in your ArtCAM software. For example, ArtCAM Insignia 2013.SP4 (64-bit build 303).

If you're trying to open an ArtCAM Model file (*.art) originating from an earlier version of ArtCAM in Autodesk ArtCAM Standard 2017, please refer to this article in the Autodesk Knowledge Network and this topic.

You can create a triangle model from a relief and export it as an STL file in Autodesk ArtCAM Standard 2017 using the Create Triangle Mesh tool.

This is the error message I receive when I try to run the software as a trial.  I installed it as administrator.  Once it was installed, I ran it and selected that I wanted to start a trial and this error message popped up.  Is there a free 30-day trial, or do I need to purchase a license first?

I'll reply to my own inquiry.

SOLVED:  You have to join Autodesk first, then run the Autodesk Desktop App, which is one of the programs installed.  In that app, log in to your account.  Then Artcam will run in trial mode.

I'm not sure why I didn't see these instructions anywhere.  Do they exist?

  I am a maintenance customer and am wanting to install the latest version of Jewelsmith, but have met with no luck.  I downloaded it, but when I try to install it I get a message that says, "Please install the main product before running an update installer."  Artcam 2015 is currently installed, so what is going on, and what do I need to do to get this thing in motion?

Please refer to this article in the Autodesk Knowledge Network for instructions on how to install Autodesk ArtCAM 2017 using your supplied serial number and product key; you will find all that you need to install Autodesk ArtCAM 2017 in your Autodesk Account, as shown below:

Once you have installed Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017, please install the fifth service pack for the Autodesk ArtCAM 2017 product range, which is available to download through the Autodesk Desktop App, as documented here.

For future reference, please note that the All Products & Services area of your Autodesk Account includes all Autodesk products available to you, while the Product Updates area includes all updates available for those products.

I have made multiple attempts to download my copy of Artcam 2017 and have
also tried to order a hard copy of it. I have had no success with either
method. When I try to download it, I get a message that a pop up was
blocked. My pop up blocker is off, so I should not be receiving that
message. Needless to say, that method will not work for me, so I tried
ordering a hard copy., That merely led me in circles. I gave my credit
card number and all pertinent information and when I pressed the review
order button, it took me back to the beginning. Nothing that I did worked.
I thought that Delcam was messed up, but you guys have them all beat to
hell. I am one unsatisfied customer and will not be continuing to pay for
your non-support.

  I have been out of town for a couple of weeks and too busy to collect email.  Now that I am back, I want to get this issue solved ASAP, as my maintenance package expires today.  That really should not have any bearing on whether or not I am entitled to the latest version though, as I have ben attempting to download it for quite some time now, and without success.

  I have been following all of the instructions that began with the help tab in Artcam Jewelsmith 2015.  While Delcam was in control of things, this always resulted in a quick and easy download and installation.  That has not been the case with Autodesk.  It just leads me around in circles, and has become very frustrating.  I am attempting to do this in Internet Explorer and getting nowhere.  Please send coherent instructions.  You gave good support under Delcam, and I expect that you will continue to do the same under the new bosses.

Many thanks for your kind words of support. As you can see by browsing the Autodesk Community's ArtCAM Forum, I've continued supporting ex-Delcam customers since Delcam was absorbed into Autodesk on 1st August 2016.

You cannot download the Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017 installer through your ArtCAM JewelSmith 2015 software or the Autodesk Customer Downloads Centre (formerly known as the Delcam Customer Downloads Centre); you can download the installer through your Autodesk Account. For instructions on downloading and installing Autodesk software, please refer to this article in the Autodesk Knowledge Network.

Please follow these steps to download and install Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017 Service Pack 6 (build 273):

1. Check for an email from Autodesk on or around 29th August 2016 with a subject heading beginning: Autodesk Order #. This email includes your serial number and product key for Autodesk ArtCAM Premium 2017; you require the serial number and product key during the software installation process.
2. Sign in to your Autodesk Account. If you have not yet created an Autodesk Account, create one using your registered email address (********@aol.com).
3. Browse to the All Products & Services page of your Autodesk Account. ArtCAM - Premium is listed in your products and services.
4. Below ArtCAM - Premium, click Downloads. A window is displayed with three tabs: Downloads, Serial numbers and Updates & Add-ons.
5. Click the Downloads tab.
6. Beside ArtCAM - Premium, click the Browser Download button. A Browser Download message box is displayed.
7. Click Start Download.
8. Click Save. The Autodesk_ArtCAM_Premium_2017_R1_Multilingual_Win_64bit_Setup.exe file is downloaded to your computer; it is 749 MB (785,506,304 bytes) in size on disk.
9. Right-click the downloaded Autodesk_ArtCAM_Premium_2017_R1_Multilingual_Win_64bit_Setup.exe file, and select the Run as administrator context menu option.
10. Start and complete the software installation process.

23. Download and install the Relief Clipart Library and Component Library using the instructions given in this article.

Please check the Promotions folder of your gmail account for an email from autodesk@autodeskcommunications.com with Open your download for ArtCAM Free as the subject heading. This email contains your download link to the Autodesk ArtCAM Free 2018 installer.

The ArtCAM_Free_2018_ML_Win_64bit_dlm.sfx.exe file 550 MB (577,527,808 bytes) in size on disk. When installing Autodesk ArtCAM Free 2018, please right-click the ArtCAM_Free_2018_ML_Win_64bit_dlm.sfx.exe file and select the Run as administrator context menu option.
