Hello,
I am a former MentalRay zealot now understanding and falling in love with Arnold.
I am trying to get intense dispersion and caustics from a diamond render.
• Shader on Diamond: aiStandtardSurface (Preset Diamond with caustics enabled)
• .ma scene file is attached.
I am using this Autodesk tutorial:
Refractive Caustics using an Emissive Shader - Arnold for Maya
Any advice on this workflow?
Thank you and best regards,
Matthias Prince

Hi and welcome!
Unfortunately, these types of caustics are not currently available in Arnold. However, you might get partially there using an emissive shader as per this tutorial.
Have you tried scaling down the emissive plane? Increasing the specular_ray_depth level may produce better results.
There is also a way to fake them using this tutorial. While not physically accurate, it does render fast.
Hello Lee,
Yes, I was using the emissive shader tut in my original post but, I think the fake caustics is more what I'm seeking.
Thanks for the direction. Will investigate.
I just realized you're the gentleman from all the Arnold youtube vids. Awesome....
When I was learning Maya way back in the day, Duncan Brinsmead would always answer my fluids questions.
Much appreciated.
