I don't understand something with the new sss in Arnold. The documents clearly state under "Radius" - "The lighter the color, the more light is scattered. A value of 0 will produce no scattering effect" and then they show the pink gears example. However with only sss active (sss AOV or with sss weight 1) and a black radius, or with a checker black/white radius map, black areas are still very strong unless the scale is huge. I don't think it's a scale problem but it could be.
I am on Arnold 5.2.2. What am I missing here? I am assuming I should use radius to hold out thicker layers of skin/shell/etc but the radius map is not working as I would expect.
Thanks.
