Render Farm and Single User License - IT'S A TRAP?!

Guys I already sent this question to Autodesk support, but they are slow. Maybe somebody here have a solution for me.

Here is the problem -

I have a Single User License for Arnold, I am using it with C4D at home, on one computer. Now I need to send my scene for a final high resolution render to a commercial render farm (garagefarm.net) and support team at render farm told me that its not possible with a Single User License.

What should I do?

PS. Sorry, I have to share with you how much I am pissed off. I decided to switch to Arnold from the Corona because of this specific project which I cant render now. It took couple of month to learn new render engine, set up ****ton of materials for a very complicated scene, set up all the scene dressing with an arnold scattering, weeks of lookdev work and now when its all done....BAM I cant render my project.

Use a different render farm, one that has Arnold licenses?

Like https://www.conductortech.com/autodesk
Or Amazon Deadline or Microsoft Azure.

Stephen thanks for suggestion, but as I understand two of yours links works with Arnold for 3DMax only, while my project done with a C4D. Could you please explain me, this licensing thing its just an issue of one particular render farm and I just need to find another one which is not connected to a License? In general is it possible to render a project done with a Single User license on a commercial render farm?

No, you can't do it with a single user license. That's not meant for render farms and machines you don't have control over. Single user is for artist workstations.

I think a render farm should have it's own licenses for the renderers, or support bring-your-own-licensing that doesn't require you to transfer your license on to their infrastructure (that's what you would have to do with a single-user license, if they supported it).

Garage Farms does say they support "multi user network licenses"

but I don't know what that means...are they going to connect to your physical license server computer? If so, that's what I would expect from "bring-your-own-licensing".

From the Conductor web site:

Our Conductor Submitter for Cinema 4D is an easy-to-use plug-in node that automatically ships scenes to render in the cloud directly from inside Cinema 4D’s UI, and can be used with Redshift, Autodesk’s Arnold, Pixar’s Renderman, Chaos’s VRay and Insydium Fused.

@Stephen.Blair  , please give me a hint what could be the problem.

Here is not a short story.

I made a quite complex scene (around 20Gb), its an environment type project with a huge amount of everything scattered (stones, vegetation, trees etc), on top of that, there is a hi poly hero object in the front of the the scene and last but not least, there are couple of VDBs in there. It was done on Intel based MacBook. I am able to render the final scene on my machine only with low resolution and with min sampling. But If am splitting the scene on frontal ground objects, middle ground and far ground - I can render it all separately in high res with a sampling 4 3 4 4 3. My console is clean, zero warnings, zero errors.

Firstly I've tried to render it with a GPU based farm. I did no achieve any result. Initially I discovered that cryptomatte is not supported by GPU. And on top of that I was not able to render VDBs with GPU at all. It constantly gave me an error and abort the render.

My second trial is still going on now but this time with another farm and I am trying to render it with a CPU. And I cant render it again. The most crazy part that I can render it in IPR with low quality settings, WITHOUT any errors on my not fresh Macbook. But the render farm cant even start the process.

Please take a look what kind of problems render farm console shows me:

Does not  these warnings looks to you like a GPU related? Front Wheel Dust and Rear Wheel Dust refered in warnings are VDB containers, then again warnings about cryptomatte...

Please advice what could be a source of the problem?

Thanks in advance!

116643MB: that's 116GB of memory being used when this message was printed. Presumably memory could be higher still later on but no messages were printed out. Could it be you're running out of RAM and that's why it's so slow?

I can only guess, but for me all of this warning does make sense, I can render it with low sample rate on a 32Gb Ram not fresh Macbook at home and I have no any warnings/errors. But then the same file with bigger sample rate cant even start on quantum computer with 256Gb Ram?

Try the latest version of Arnold. There have been some memory fixes with samples. https://arnoldrenderer.com/download/

For instance: 7.2.2.0 core had this fix: ARNOLD-11900 - AOV samples memory stats report negative value and large unaccounted memory

@sergiy.lysenko Can you start a new thread, so this isn't hidden in a post about licensing?

It would be great to see a full Arnold log for a render.

I see you logged a case with Autodesk support. That's only going to get forwarded back to me, and you already are getting some answers from senior Arnold developers on this question. We just need more information...starting with an Arnold log.
