Distorted iris reflection in cornea when rendering eye

Trying to recreate the dome like effect eyes have with the iris and cornea as two separate meshes. Even with that, it looks like the iris is being stretched out around the cornea. It looks semi normal from the front, but I'm worried everything I'm seeing in the cornea is being distorted.

Why does this happen?

What specular_IOR value are you using? What does the shader look like?

Are the normals ok? Are you able to share a simple scene?

You could File -> Archive the scene or strip it down to just the eyeball and texture that show the issue.

Stripped down and as an archive it still exceeds the maximum file size allowed for upload, is there another way for you to get it?

You could upload it somewhere else and post the link here.

The shading looks right. I get a similar effect with the Emily asset from this angle. Changing the specular_ior reduces the effect but then it isn't physically accurate.

I thought it looked odd, but after googling 'eyeball profile', maybe it's not as strange as it first seems. For example this photo:

I feel like it depends on the angle; when I've looked at someone's eye from the side, I've seen a bit of a dome effect. Looking at those examples, it really does look like there's some type of distortion going on.

Maybe it wasn't as big of an issue as I thought..... I still want to experiment with adding extra layers to it to see if it creates a better effect.
