TLDR: Whether it be using CPU or GPU rendering with camera (AA) set to 3, JPEG, resolution set to HD_1080 at 24fps, Maya will crash. I updated Arnold but otherwise, all settings are set to default.

More Info: So far my scene consists of some med-high poly meshes with some texturing (using substance painter) as well as about 4 or 5 area lights. Nothing moves other than the camera. though it took forever, I was able to render out full animated scenes on my Dell XPS 15. I just did a stress test to see how cooling, power and CPU multicore would do using cinebench and I scored incredibly high without any problems. On my old Dell I'd also frequently use nCloth simulations, again with no problems.
