Hey,
I still try to properly understand how to use the denoising feature in Arnold. For lookdev I use the Oidn a lot and it gives great and fast results. I also used it for sequences with the batch render, even though its not really made for animations. But it is easy to use: just add the denoiser, select the layers I want to have denoised and thats it.
I have troubles understanding noice: I followed Lee Griggs video on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eV7N_ymSjwM) and made a test sequence to test the noice utility with rendered .exr sequences.
- Why is there a noice imager in the Arnold RenderView? I thought noice is a tool that is used afterwards. What does it do? Do i need to turn it on when I want to properly denoise afterwards or does it denoise every render right after its done when rendering a batch sequence
- A question a lot of people have: How do we use noice when we want to denoise specific passes? I also followed Rezas video on how to use noice (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSAcFE_x-Ds&t=749s), have the "Output Denoising AOVs on. When I load my rendered .exr in noice, I still get only RGBA.
It would be awesome if someone could explain, maybe even doing a proper workflow tutorial so everyone can catch up and understands on how to use noice with seperate AOVs. I know that it is possible somehow.
Arnold can be super slow and people complain a lot about high render times, even thinking about switching render engines. I think using noice can be a real gamechanger if used properly.

Hi meU6KLN, Noice in the Arnold RenderView window is purely for denoising still images (see top here): https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFMUG/Arnold+Denoiser
> have the "Output Denoising AOVs on. When I load my rendered .exr in noice, I still get only RGBA.
Do you have 'merge AOVs' enabled in the common tab for EXR?
Information about Output Denoising AOVs can be found here:
https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFMUG/AOVs#AOVs-OutputDenoisingAOVs
The workflow is here:
https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFMUG/Arnold+Denoiser
Ah, I see!
"The Arnold Denoiser requires that the parameter "Output Variance AOVs" is enabled in the Render Settings AOVs tab (Output Denoising AOVs)."
I had trouble with creating the Output Driver for each AOV layer and didn't knew that I have to tell Arnold Denoiser (noice) to denoise RGBA / coat / diffuse / specular / sss / transmission - layers in the Light Group AOV input.
This link was very good to understand what and how to do: https://support.superrendersfarm.com/hc/en-us/articles/360062299040-maya-arnold-denoiser !
