When I import two different VDB's through Arnold's Volume in Maya I get artifacts and a bit of brightening. It happens when I bring one VDB's bounding box and intersect it with a different VDB. The actual physical volume doesn't have to be touching it. Now when I duplicate a VDB and intersect it with the same file (original duplicate) it doesn't have any artifacts. So I'm unable to place multiple variations of VDBs around because of artifact issues. But I can duplicate one file multiple times around just fine (doing this for clouds)
Do you have the volume_padding set? Images would be really useful.
No I do not have volume_padding set. What should that be at? It's currently at zero. Here are some images. (update: I put the volume padding to 10 and it gave me a nice like, but it didn't change the brightness increase and hiding the hard edge where the bounding box is. Does that feature just make it more dense? I thought that's what the density feature in the aiVolume feature was for)
I also have automatic stepping size on and the step scale at 20
just one VDB
When I add the other VDB. You can see the bounding box hard edge where it stops the extra brightness. And you can see that the extra volume on the right isn't actually touching the original cloud, just the bounding box.
you can see it more clearly here as i pumped up the volume padding on the other VDB
