After building a rig using advanced skeleton I get this error when trying to render. I went and tested the render using a file before I started rigging and It worked fine. After that I downloaded the new update and the error is gone but the scene render black. Any ideas how to fix the problem?

Edit: fixed The black renders. Ive gone back rendering scenes and renders are fine until I start building the rig, are you not able to render with a advanced skeleton rig in your scene? I dont know what it is. lol

Thank you

Ok, the problem is you cant enable smooth mesh preview or it will crash arnold.

Are there Arnold subdivision_iterations on the mesh? This coupled with smooth mesh preview can create billions of polygons.

Can you provide a full verbosity log file?

Hi, I was able to render by disabling the smooth mesh preview, my mistake.  If you would like the log I will provide it for you? Thank you for the reply Lee

I've got pretty much this same issue, except whenever I render in Arnold it crashes regardless of smooth mesh preview, I uninstalled Maya 2024 and installed 2025 thinking maybe they fixed the bug in the new version as it was working perfectly fine a couple months ago, but to no luck. I have a 4090 so I'm pretty sure my graphics card is strong enough to handle Arnold, but alas it crashes, sometimes so quickly that the program doesn't even have time to send a crash report. For a subscription-based software, I'm appalled this is even a thing.

I’m not sure what it could be. You can try going through each assets and press 1 on keyboard. I render with cpu so if your rendering with gpu it could be a setting. Near the end of this video there is an explanation for gpu render settings. Hope this helps https://youtu.be/mLMXWCLX4SY?feature=shared

thanks, I changed it to GPU, and it didn't crash, hopefully it's not a fluke and remains fixed!!!

我之前遇到过和你一样的情况,你可以试试更新主板的BIOS。电压不稳定可能是由第 13 代和第 14 代英特尔的设计缺陷引起的。自从更新 BIOS 以来,我没有遇到任何崩溃

I have experienced the same situation as you before, you can try updating the BIOS of your motherboard. It is possible that the voltage instability was caused by a design defect in the 13th and 14th generations of Intel. I have not experienced any crashes since updating the BIOS

I'm having the same issue.

"WARNING Signal Caught: Error C00000005 -- access violation"

I'm setting my scene up the same way I've done for years, but it crashes every time I try to render it.

I had the same error and ended up narrowing it down to my output resolution settings. The Maya file I received from a client had the resolution set to 1200x1729. And after much troubleshooting with smoothing levels, displacement shader settings, and importing the meshes into a clean scene, I tried rendering with a new camera with default settings and it finally started rendering without crashing Maya. So, I used another vertically-oriented preset (in this case "Letter") to get close to matching the client's dimensions and then adjusted the ppi from 300 to 72 and changed the height dim to 1730 with "Maintain width/height ratio" enabled. With that, my new resolution ended up being 1338x1730. and it rendered without issue.

Just reading this thread, it appears this error might happen for a number of reasons. In my case it was a resolution setting. So, I figured I'd share and add it to the pile of potential causes.

Just an aside:
Someday, it would be nice to see a bottom-up rebuild of Maya. I know this is a heavy lift. But I've been a Maya user before it was Maya (aka Alias Power Animator), and the stability issues seem to have increased over time. I won't use the "B" word, but it's catching up quickly. Just my 2 cents.

Folks, this error message is just a generic message saying a crash happened in arnold (ai.dll is the arnold code). Unless it's related to smooth mesh preview it's very likely completely unrelated. Please make a new thread explaining what you were doing when the crash occurred. Ideally include complete arnold logs as they can include very useful information. If the autdoesk customer error reporting tool popped up asking you to report the bug, please do it and give us the report ID. That can go a long way to letting us diagnose and fix the problem. Include your email address in the CER report and you might even get an automated email once the bug has been fixed.
