Geometry Normals Solaris display incorrectly

Arnold in Solaris doesn't seem to use the normals in the SOP Create/SOP Import nodes and always renders with smoothed normals. Is there a way to fix this. Thanks!

Hey!

Can you share a Houdini scene?

Importing a default box into Solaris does not include normals. You can use scene graph details to check this and look for "normals" parameter. If there is no normal information included, Arnold will generate (smoothed) normals for the geometry.

Once you make sure normals exist in SOP, they will be imported to Solaris.

Cheers,

Pal.

Hey Pal,

Thanks for the reply. The box I gave as an example does have normal information. However, Arnold doesn't seem to use the existing ones and generates its own smooth normals on render. I've discovered though that creating a Render Geometry Settings node and ticking on the "Smoothing" checkbox in the Arnold tab fixes the problem.

Thanks
