There's nothing about Arnold or HtoA in that stack trace, so I can't really tell much from it.
If anything, it looks like mplay is crashing.

What's in the Arnold log? In the Arnold ROP, on the Diagnostics tab, increase the verbosity to Info and enable file logging. The Arnold log for a render to mplay will be in that log file.

What happens if you render to disk?

Hi, thank you for your reply, sorry I only noticed just now. I have tried to use a USD Render ROP in stage but after 10 or so frames it crashes.

For anyone who finds this with the same problem, it took me a while to figure it out, there is a way to use /out not /stage: in the output tab click the small arrow next to output picture and change it to sequence of exr files. This fixes the problem fully. Hope this helps someone! CREDIT: https://youtu.be/K7NDeq9aixk?t=1092
