using arnold on a network drive with different machines

hey guys,

i would like to have the arnold plugin on a network drive und use the environment variable to load the render on every machine. in my case it's not possible to install it properly on every singel render node. and i have to render different projects with different arnold versions and just want to switch the variable

if i'm doing it like this way, not all machines can load arnold. does anyone know whats the problem about this? is there something like a "universal" arnold plugin? or does anyone know an other solution?

and by the way, can i use a mtoa license for rendering with c4dtoa? is there any difference?

thanks a lot for any help!

marc.

This sounds like a CINEMA 4D question: how do you switch between different versions of a CINEMA 4D plugin? Did you try C4D_PLUGINS_DIR ?

Plugins like MtoA and C4DtoA are unlicensed. It is Arnold that is licenses, and you can use that license in any software.

hey stephen,

thanks for your answer!

yes i'm using the C4D_PLUGINS_DIR for setting the path to my arnold plugin. the problem is, if i'm using the exact same plugin in a central place on the network drive, not every machine can load it.

but if i'm installing arnold with the normal installer on this machines, it works fine. and if i'm copying then this new installed version of arnold on the network drive, some other machines can't load the new version. so i need something like a "unversal" version, how works on every machine.

and i thought so with the licenses thing, but i was not sure.

thank you!

If you have the same version of CINEMA 4D, all machines should be able to load the same version of C4DtoA.

Assuming all machines have the same OS (eg they are all Windows or macOS) and all machines meet the minimum requirements for C4DtoA and Arnold.

I would look into what's different on these machines. Is there a different environment (PATH)?

I'd use Process Monitor or dtruss and compare.

oh, i solved the problem. it was very stupid.

in the original c4d plugin folder was the c4dtoa folder not complete deleted. cinema had then problems to load the new one.

it´s a bit laborious that the C4D_PLUGINS_DIR does not replace the normal c4d plugin folder.

thank you for your help!
