Using a surface deformer with c4dtoa

I have built a character and I am using a surface deformer to allow some objects like laces etc fix to their position on my character. This works in my IPR but when I hit render the objects with the surface deformer on seem to remain in their initial position instead of following the character. Any ideas on how to solve this issue?
