Toon Edge width changes opacity instead

So I'm using Arnolds Toons shader and the setup for the edges is a simple one.

I have the default width.

and this is the material

but when I change the width either in the render settings or in the material the edge only gets transparent (just like I'm moving the opacity slider).

Default edge settings

Edge width scale 0.8

Possibly a "did you try to turn it off and back on" type question so please forgive me 😄 but have you actually sent it to the render yet? Like the final render? I only say this because I thought this was going on too but it seems to just be the way the viewport renders it. In final render the lines look smaller/bigger rather than more or less opaque.

I just did it really quick and the numbers are the thicknesses of each line
