Sample Settings on Team Render

So trying out a still frame via Team Render. Regardless of sample settings on the main machine, Arnold defaults to basic sample settings. It only respects light samples.

What am I missing?

I just made a quick test and all seems to be fine. Is the right render settings active? Can you tell me step-by-step how you run Team Render?

Hey Peter,

Enabled team server on both machines, select render settings and render to picture viewer.

Logs on both machines show the sample settings that I attached. Doesn’t matter what settings I set, they are ignored. No errors.

The job will complete successfully with the remote helping out, just wrong sample settings.

Ok, so I got this working but it seems like a bug to me - not sure on who's end though.

If I have a single render setting TR and Arnold works fine. If you add more than one render setting, TR just defaults to the first render setting, regardless of which one you selected. Even if you have selected a second, third etc render setting, TR will still just use the first one in the list. Moving the render setting you want to the top of the list always works. Sometimes selecting an alternative render setting and saving the document works.

I figured this out by using the Adding to Render queue option as it shows what render settings will be used.

(1) - Shows selected render setting TR should use

(2) TR defaults to first setting in the list

Render queue is completely managed by Cinema 4D. So if the render settings are reset to the default there, it should be a c4d bug. You can verify if the same thing happens with other renders, like the Standard or Redshift.

If you Team Render to Picture Viewer, then the scene transfer (sending the scene to the clients) are also managed by Cinema 4D, so could be the same bug (if it's a bug).

Btw, I just made a quick test with multiple render settings and was working fine. I tested on Window though, in Cinema 4D 2024.0.0. Are you using 2024.1 maybe? (haven't checked that build yet)

As far as I can see, Render Queue always displays the render settings saved in the scene, not the currently selected one.

So let's say, there are three render settings in a scene, R1, R2 and R3. The scene is saved with R2 selected. I load the scene, select R3, add to Render Queue: it will display R2. If if re-save the scene with R3 selected and then add to Render Queue, then it will display R3. So always the saved one.

I had already logged a ticket with Maxon. I had also noticed that if I selected say R3, then saved the document the Render Queue would honor that setting, but not consistently.
