OCIO error when using Legacy colour in Deadline

Cinema 4d R21

Arnold core 7.1.2.2

C4DtoA 4.2.4.1

It looks like when using the legacy colour settings in R21 a reference to a local OCIO config gets embedded into the ass files that I save out for Deadline to pass to our render farm:

color_manager_ocio
{
name /color_manager
config "/Applications/Maxon Cinema 4D R21/arnold/ocio/configs/arnold/config.ocio"
color_space_narrow "sRGB"
color_space_linear "scene-linear Rec.709-sRGB"
}

this then throws a rendering error as our Deadline/Arnold on the farm doesn't know about this local path:

=======================================================
Error
=======================================================
FailRenderException : 00:00:00 107MB ERROR | [color_manager_ocio] could not read '/Applications/Maxon Cinema 4D R21/arnold/ocio/configs/arnold/config.ocio' OCIO profile.
at Deadline.Plugins.DeadlinePlugin.FailRender(String message)

Any ideas about circumventing this? I assume that setting the colour management from Legacy to the default - Aces setting would help? Since these are legacy files I was hoping to avoid colour shifts from switching colour management settings.

Cheers, Simon W.

Can you add flags to kick, like so?

-set options.color_manager "" -d color_manager_ocio

hi stephen,

thanks - will test this out tomorrow.

would these parameters be added only when you are using the legacy colour manager?

so if you were using the default - Aces colour management it would not be necessary to add this parameter?

cheers, simon w.

Right.

If you use "default ACES" then Arnold will use the OCIO config that ships with Arnold.

Since it's the default, no color_manager node will be exported to ASS.

You can set the OCIO environment variable on the farm to point to the config shipped with Arnold ($ARNOLD_DIR/ocio/configs/arnold/config.ocio) and then use an ocio color manager with empty config in the scene:

color_manager_ocio
{
name /color_manager
config ""
color_space_narrow "sRGB"
color_space_linear "scene-linear Rec.709-sRGB"
}

Thank you Stephen and Peter for your help! I think that information covers everything!
