Memory Overload freezing render

Hello,

Working on C4D, I am doing some renders with several characters, something like 15 hair systems (cached), an infinite ocean generated from a houdini displacement map (animated) with each map being around 250 mega, motion blur, etc.

The reason I give all these infos is that it is the 1st time I run into this problem : I launch my render and when I come back 12 hours later, it froze after something like 200 frames. It happened twice on two different shots. I have a warning from MacOS that there is a memory overload, so it stopped C4D.

I have to close C4D and restart the render from the frozen image.

But why ? Is it a normal behavior from Arnold ?

I'm on MacOS with 64gigas of RAM.

Got an Arnold log so we can see what's going on? Are all textures tx? Whats the texture cache size? What version C4DtoA? How much memory is being used to render each frame.

Hi Stephen,

-No Arnold log sorry

- yes all textures are tx, except the 100 images of the animated displacement map

-I'm sorry but I don't know where to find the cache size, but the indicated max cache size in settings is 2048MB

-2.4.0.1

-when rendering a frame in the IPR, it is written "mem : 7142.02MB"

7142mb isn't that much, so something else must be happening

per-frame logs would show us whether there's an increasing amount of memory being used each frame, because we would get something like this:

I wonder if it's related to hair. I remember there was a memory leak in the plugin before (in 2.0.0) while exporting the guides. It was fixed than, but who knows.
