Light Mixer Imager

This only works when the IPR is running. Is it not possible for it to work when the IPR is stopped like Corona Render does?

Sorry, I missed this post, thank you for reminding me.

Unfortunately not possible. Currently, imagers are attached to drivers as part of the rendering process, which means you need an active render session for them to work. They won't operate on the output image after you stop the render.

Once your image is rendered though, updating imagers should be fairly fast in the IPR, without restarting the render.

No worries.

I figured this was the case which leads me on to my next point 🙂 Imagers don't update when changed or activated/de-activated and its been that way for me at least for some time.

I consistently have to uncheck/re-check an imager to get it to update in the IPR, but that always re-starts the render. Examples include having a LUT applied and changing the mix amount, or seeing the difference with  and without ODIN or playing with the lens effects.

I wonder how much of this is a C4D thing as I the IPR will also restart when moving around in the settings panel (not changing sampling). This isn't limited to the current version of C4D either.

That sounds like a bug. The IPR should always update when changing imagers and they should not trigger a restart once the render is finished, if tweaking only imagers. I will try to reproduce and fix it.

@peter_horvath Any luck? I've had mixed success with the light mixer.

@peter_horvath I've noticed a bit of a pattern here. If I make a change to an imager after the IPR has finished, it won't update straight away. You either have to wait a while or a mouse of event seems to do it. Any changes to the imager after the first attempt will trigger the IPR to restart. It's been the same pattern on regular imagers or the light mixer.

What I've noticed is, changing a slider triggers a restart. Editing the value, like type in a number, seems to update fine. I also noticed that sometimes the IPR indeed does not update after a change. I noticed it mainly with the solo/mute buttons, but could not make a pattern from it.

I will investigate and try to fix it in our next release.

It is random. I still have issues with sliding values, things tend to crash. Typing values on the imagers is hit and miss. Seems like once it gets going's OK but its not reliable.
