How to avoid outlines from other objects in a specular toon shader?

Is there a way to get only the stylized highlights and not the outlines that comes with turning specular on? I know I can avoid some of the outlines by "blurring" them out with roughness, but render times increase with a lot.

Without seeing images it's hard to imagine what you are getting. What Angle Threshold are you using? Are you using Silhouette? Disabling Indirect Specular may help?

Sorry for replying so late. Here is an image. Say, that I want the highlights of the specular. The white from the light, the emissive material. But not all the outlines.

Not using Silhouette. Indirect specular didn't help.

Did you increase the Angle Threshold? What is that? Are you able to upload a simplified scene?

Angle Threshold of the edge detection, doesn't seem to make any difference, in the specularity.
Here is a simple file, but do you have C4D R20?
That's a part of a MIG-29 plane, a light sensor. That turns on and faces the camera.

I am using this effect quite a lot though. Here is a more finished scene:

I discovered the problem. Once you have a toon material with emission on, your specular tonemap is cancelled out and roughness starts draving out dots. Not sure how to solve it yet...

Have you tried layering two Toon shaders together?
