Getting rid of "sphere shading" in arnold rendered splines

Hey all,

I try to render c4d-splines via the arnold tag an a standard_surface shader:

 This is the result:

I'd like to stay on "thick" mode (it's supposed to act as sewing threads on some bags).

But: Can I somehow get rid of the shading artefacts on the spline?

Thank you very much,

Ulrich

PS: scene file in attachment.

Increase the number of spline samples.

Unfortunately, that does not help.

Samples: "1000":

 Thx, though...

Just found a "workaround": Use CPU-Render instead of GPU-Render. Unfortunately that would increas my overall rendertime by more than 4x. If you have any other ideas, plz let me know!

Thanks!

Unfortunately it's a know issue of thick curves with GPU rendering, no other workaround than switching to CPU. It's on our roadmap to fix this, but no ETA at the moment.

Thanks for the insight.

Maybe this will be a job for the online renderfarm for now 😉
