Correct technique for compositing shadow

Hey all,

I just recently finished a project rendered in C4D using Arnold: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/xkozm

I would like to knock some blue into the shadows. What is the commonly used compositing workflow to change shadow color in post? Which AOVs are required and how do I rebuild the beauty from the AOVs?

Thanks!

Wow.. awesome work Aswin!

To my knowledge you can't render image AOVs without the influence of shadowing and so you can't isolate them onto, say, their own photoshop layer. To add colour to shadowing in post I would render out the 'shadow_matte' AOV and then use this as a mask in Photoshop (or AE/Nuke if animation) on a Hue/Sat adjustment layer, or a solid set to overlay, or whatever your favourite colour correcting technique mite be...

You can add a flat white shader to the scene and render a master shadow pass. For shadows in reflections, do a seperate pass.
