c4dtoA volume workflow issues

I am a new user who is really enjoying certain aspects of working with Arnold (getting some great results with Polymesh displacements!) However, I'm going a little bit crazy trying to figure out how to work with Arnold Volumes and .vdb files, which is what I really want to learn. I've followed many of the volume tutorials and get completely different results than what is indicated.

For example in this tutorial:

https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFCUG/Volume+Sample+RGB+Example

The scene (R18) file uses the deprecated Volume Collector. If I replace it with the Standard Volume shader and follow instructions (they seem relatively straightforward) I get entirely different results than in the tutorial. Am I missing something or is valuable info missing from the tutorial?

In this tutorial things are much the same

https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFCUG/OpenVDB+Workflow

and while I am 100% certain I have followed instructions to the letter, adjusting the Input Max, Bias, Gain, and Output Max values returns entirely different results that what is shown.

Furthermore, most tutorials I have found on the web still use the deprecated Volume Collector. How do I get similar results with the Standard Volume Shader?

I can see that it's possible to get great results with Arnold, and I'm willing to take the time to learn, but can someone please answer the questions above and point me to reliable and up to date sources of information?

Thanks in advance!

It uses the Standard Volume shader. It works fine for me.

The Volume Collector would be from the Arnold 4 docs, but you have linked

to the Arnold 5 docs, so I have no idea what is going on.
