C4DtoA crashes during animation rendering

Hello everyone!

 

I'm having trouble rendering the scene with simple animation (GSG Signal).

 

IPR works mostly fine but during animation render (Picture viewer and Render queue). Usually, it just crashes with a C4D error message. Crashes are random not dependent on the frame. It also happens in different scenes, but inconsistently, I couldn't catch the culprit.

 

I've attached logs from successful and unsuccessful frames.

 

I'm on macOS Ventura 13.5.1 (Intel), Cinema 2024.1.0, C4DtoA 4.6.6.2

 

Any help is appreciated!

I did additional testing on Windows 11 23H2 with the same version of Cinema4D and Arnold and got the same results. After several frames, Arnold crashes.

Does Arnold crash with other scenes as well or is it specific to one scene?

No, it is not specific, it seems random. I've tried removing parts of the scene, removing volume, and converting everything to polys, but no success.

 

I'm testing different scenes right now, and I'm still getting the crashes. Is there anything suspicious in the logs?

 

I've attached the scene just in case.

I can not reproduce the crash with the scene, although I'm missing some GSG plugins. Unfortunately the Cinema 4D bugreport does not help much and I don't see any bug reports in our system. Did the Autodesk Crash report dialog pop up when you had the crashes on macOS? On windows, there supposed to be a minidump.dmp file in the bugreports folder. If you could send it to us, that might help as well.

Yes, the crashes are very inconsistent. For example, I tried rendering yesterday and got 248 frames without any problems, but then Arnold crashed, and when I tried rendering the rest, it started crashing every 4-5 frames.

I was running renders on your attached scene several times, but unfortunately I could not make it crash. Thank you for the crash report and minidump btw, based on them the crash is related to SSS, but hard to tell exactly what's going on without a repro. If you have time to try, maybe you can start removing elements from the scene to narrow it down (objects, textures, animation, etc.) until a point when it stops crashing.

Interesting, I'll test some tests on the weekend. Thanks for your help.

Here are also another report number 733570838. It's the same scene, but with different shaders, IPR crashes constantly, even without any SSS
