C4D GPU performance discrepancy between 2 CPUs

I'm testing C4DtoA GPU performance on 2 different cpus and have noticed a marked performance difference, hoping someone can shed some light.

cpu1 (desktop): Threadripper 1920 12-core with a GTX 1080, 64GB RAM, Win10

cpu2 (laptop): Ryzen 9 5900HS 8-core with a RTX 3070, 16GB RAM, Win10

C4DtoA CPU performance is almost identical (Threadripper with a slight edge), but when I switch to GPU, the laptop blows away the desktop by an almost 5:1 speed margin, which is odd as GPU benchmarks give the 1080 the edge.

Task manager shows GPUs spiking to 100% during test renders, so is it a matter of the GTX 1080 just not meant to perform well with C4DtoA GPU?

thanks in advance

I think 3070 should be way faster than a gtx 1080 at ray tracing, especially since it has dedicated ray tracing hardware which 1080 does not.

thanks Thiago, appreciate the reply.

would a lack of dedicated hw raytracing typically explain a 5x speed difference, or should I be looking around for a tweak to my GPU settings?

thanks, P

The 1080 is much older and much less capable than the 3070, so a performance delta of that magnitude would be expected. See here for an example (scroll down to the GPU benchmarks). Other factors could include included VRAM, scene complexity, and system architecture...
