Avoiding Random crashes when using Cinema 4D Node Material

Hi

I suppose It's not really a specific question so i apologize beforehand but, is there a way to avoid crashing when using the Cinema 4D Node Material and build shaders for Arnold there?

So far these seem to crash it

  • Editing node parameters in the attribute manager.
  • Connecting nodes.
  • Adding notes (less frequently crashing but still does sometimes).

And generally it feels a bit clunky at the moment

Thanks a lot!

Please make sure you are using the latest version (4.0.2). If you are on Windows, please check if you have a dump file in the c4d bugreport folder after a crash (e.g. HOME\AppData\Roaming\MAXON\Maxon Cinema 4D R25_1FE0824E\_bugreports\minidump.dmp) and send it to us.

You can try to disable the shader and material previews to see if that helps with the crashes and the performance.

Hi Peter, Thanks for the speedy reply.

I'm using the latest version , Turning off the previews hasn't made a difference unfortunately

Here is the dump file attached minidump.zip

Thanks, the stacktrace in the dump file points to an issue we are actively investigating. Hopefully this can be fixed in a next core release.

Meanwhile if you have more crashes, feel free to send us the dump files (here or email to support(at)arnoldrenderer(dot)com), to see if there are any other issues with the Node Material.
