MaxToA Volume AOV problem

Can't seem to get a decent volume AOV out of max.

I've worked with decent volume passes from arnold before and they look just like the beauty pass but I can't render a decent volume pass from my scene.

It seems extremely dark, compared to the actual render, need around +200 gain just to be similarly visible, I am using the volume opacity to give it some decent alpha but overall it's just not great, what am I doing wrong ??

Volume_z seems to work ok(ish)

Can't post any parts of the scene.

In situations like this, what I do is break down the problem. Create a new scene, with a similar setup and see how the Volume AOV looks like. Does it look correct? It is hard to say exactly what could be the issue without seeing anything and sometimes is just a matter of merging everything into a new scene. Not the first time I have had to do that with other projects.

Yeah, sure, I just wonder if there are known issues with this ?

How is it expected to work ? I suppose the beauty should match the composit, right ? ( base render + volume )

Here is an example of what I get

I am using a VDB for this.
