I'm quite new to Arnold and the AOVs. I am trying to render out a beauty pass and Object ID pass and save it to one .exr file. Attached to this post is the test 3ds Max scene.
I've watched a tutorial where a guy sets up an AOV material to be used. When I set up the AOVs in the manager and run an Active Shade render it works like I'd expect. The beauty pass can be seen and when I switch the drop down to 'object_ID' it shows up as expected. The problem is when I switch to a production render. The beauty pass shows up just fine but there is no 'object_ID' pass to display.
Any help would be appreciated. Perhaps I'm not saving this AOV correctly?
Seems to be working fine on my side.
You don't need to be working in Activeshade anymore, you have the Arnold Render View for the interactive previews.
Arnold is going to save the main beauty file and another one with the AOVs. In your case, the AOV contains both the RGBA or beauty pass and the object ID, so you can just use that and ignore or delete the other file.
Thank you for the feedback! Very much appreciated. So it seems when I setup output paths for the images to be saved, if I specify the path in the AOVs Manager and in the Render Output settings that's when it will output 2 files, one with just the beauty and the other with beauty and the AOV I specify? Why not just one nice file especially when it's a sequence so I do not have to go back and delete just the ones with the beauty pass. I suppose when network rendering I would only need to specify the output path in the AOVs Manager?
Regarding saving two files, I honestly don't know. My guess is that Arnold needs to support "everything" that 3ds Max has and this is another one of those small things that make no sense. Like, having to support Environment Exposure Control, while you have imagers to do that. Anyway, regarding the AOV manager, explore these tokens as they will make your life way easier
You can combine them. This is what I use when I want to save the Arnold Output in the same folder that has the render and add some extra folders if needed.
Thank you again for all the feedback. Very much appreciate you letting me pick your brain. Still lots to learn about Arnold.
No worries. Any question feel free to ask here or on the Discord server.
