Distance, AO using ACEScg color space

Hi,

the maps that have a range "black-to-white" like the Distance, the AO and are affected by the lack of the pure FFFFFF white when using the as diffuse\primary rays  (and they are useful for this color range 🙂 🙂 🙂 ) with ACEScg color space.

Most of our projects are render\animations that shows products on a white plane that catches the ground soft shadows.

So, in most cases the Shadowmatte workflow is perfect, but when AO or Distance is needed, it is impossible to reach the pure solid white background. Connecting a color correct node that boosts or contrasts the white part of the AO will (right, of course) over expose everything that lays on the white plane. Same no-way using imagers.

So, I found no good ways to keep a pure white plane with well contrasted shadows like the gamma 2,2 workflow (without a strong post production, of course). Is there a way to set the maximum brightness\white point in ACEScg?

Luca 🙂

You could try changing the view transform (sRGB) and check the pixel values for your scene or just render to EXR.
