rebuilding beauty pass from AOV's...using Nuke

Hi

I feel like this question has been asked and answered numerous times on these forums, but I'm still having trouble.

I am trying to rebuild my beauty pass using AOVs, comping in Nuke.

I render a Direct, Indirect, SSS, Specular, and Coat.

Using an Arnold standard material, my test beachball has a rough specular at 1.0, SSS at 1.0, Clearcoat at 1.0, and is being lit by an environment HDR map and a single point Arnold light.

I add them all together in Nuke (simple additive comp) and....it looks different from my beauty pass. Not very different, but different.

Does anyone know a good AOV workflow that rebuilds a beauty pass correctly, that gives me control of indirect, direct, specular (I can do without that one) clearcoat, and SSS?

Hi Matthew, from the AOV docs:

"Some example sets of additive AOVs for the full beauty AOV are:

  • direct, indirect, emission, background.
  • diffuse, specular, coat, transmission, sss, volume, emission, background.
  • diffuse_direct, diffuse_indirect, specular_direct, specular_indirect, coat, transmission, sss, volume, emission, background."

There is also a section in this tutorial that covers it. It is in Photoshop but should translate to Nuke.
