Optix Denoisers missing after update - 3dsmax

Hi, tonight I updated MAXtoA to 4.3.0.78, and then updated my Nvidia drivers to 461.40 as recommended for my GeForce RTX 2070 Super.

The option to use the Optix Denoiser is now missing and I am getting an "unable to load Optix library, NVIDIA driver 461.40 is either too old or missing the Optix library" error.

How can this be when all software is up to date?

UPDATE : For tonight I have rolled MAXtoA back to 4.2.2.20 and the option is back. Is it not possible to update to 4.3?

Have you uninstall MAXtoA 4.2 before installing the new one? Sometimes I can have issues. I have an 2060 Super with the latest driver and it works fine.

Optix has been removed from the System menu and is now an imager. Does it work if you try it there?

I would reinstall the driver.
Then if you still have the problem, can you get us a Process Monitor log?
We should be finding and loading the Optix library from a folder in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

How to get a Process Monitor log:

Then just start 3ds Max, and after you get the error, stop logging and save the PML log file.
Zip it up and share it somewhere, or upload it here.

Hi folks, I think it was a combination of both replies above - rolling back to 4.2 then installing 4.3 + reinstalling the Nvidia drivers seems to have fixed the error. Sorry I'm not 100% sure which did the trick as I did the updates back to back!

Thanks Lee - that cleared up the next question I had, even with the Library loaded I was 'missing' the checkbox, but can see it in the Imagers now instead.

A side question (I can start a new thread if that's preferred?) - the old Optix denoiser seemed to run on each incremental AA pass, so it was like noise>denoised>noise>denoise which gave me a super quick lookdev that was murky at first but eventually cleaned up. Now it only denoises when the render is at 100% complete but the other imagers seem to be active at all times. Is there a way to have it denoise more regularly or is this a new intentional thing with it being an imager?

hello i have almost the same problem but in my case i dont have any error regarding optix, in previews version i could add optix denoise to beauty pass in the last render tab now this option is missing, adding optix denoise as an imager laso doesnt have any effect.

downgrading to previews version works fine , i have also installed clean nvidia drivers

How do you uninstall an Arnold driver for 3ds max? I am having the same issue that Steven Phillips is having.

Go to the Control Panel and uninstall the previous version. Reinstall the Nvidia driver and install the new release.

Ciro, by the way, I have been watching your youtube videos. Very good stuff. I have moved from 2016 max with mental ray, Trying to wrap my head around Arnold/OSL/AOV etc. Render Passes seemed much more intuitive in MR in 2016. Keep up the excellent videos. I do wish your 365 video was a bit more in depth. I get lost a bit.

I am still having issues with Optix Denoiser in Arnold. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers 461.40-desktop-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe and I rolled back Arnold to MAXtoA-4.1.2.1-2021 I at first was looking for Arnold in the programs to uninstall and didn't realize it was called MaxtoA, but I managed to uninstall the latest and took it back to MAXtoA-4.1.2.1-2021. I now get this message: 1612545431128.png

Could this have been the culprit all along? https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Optix-...

Just a tidbit. I much prefer the old way of doing it. I clicked a button to enable it. This is NOT as easy.

Sorry I missed your reply. I think is better if you create a new thread.
