Long render time with Forest pack

Hi There,

Recently have been experience very long render time more than 5h using Forest pack plugin.

My comp is good I9 Alienware, the scene is not very big (some grass and trees)

My settings for the image 3200x1800 , Camera AA-5 , Diffuse-5 , everything else by default.

The active shade mode was not working ,so to adjust the lights I was using Production rendering mode...

What I could do to reduce the render time ?

Thank you for your help

Do you really need CameraAA 5? Is this an exterior scene? Last week I rendered a 6.5K in just under 50 minutes with Forest Pack and Speedtrees.

A couple of things you can do

Convert your textures to TX

Increase your Memory Cache Size from 2048 to 4096.

Use ASS files if you can, although there is an issue with Forest Pack and ASS files.

If you're using 3d assets as fp custom objects, use

less of them.

Maybe two or three.

Active shade yes has bugs, do your previews in production.

Also put all of your fp objects in a separate xref file.

And finally as Ciro said 5 is too high for camera AA.

Use max 4.

3200x1800??????????????

O M G

use 1000x1000 and then resize final render with gigapixel...

***

My final productions with arnold in any level of difficulty

take max 45'. Unless you're producing one image per week...

Post a detailed log file (instructions on right side of this page) and we'll be able to see from the stats where the time is going.

Hi ,

Thank you very much for your help, really appreciated:)

How to put mu FP objects in separate Xref file?

I need to print my presentation in A1 format ,thinking 3200x 1800 is a good resolution.

Maybe I can reduce it?

Thank you again

Check this

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...

Then on render settings, under the textures options, you have the option to use TX files and change the Cache to 4096 if you have more then 4GB.

In terms of resolution, you can easily scale up from 3k to 5 or 6K.

In terms of settings, Camera AA 3, Diffuse 2 - 2, Specular 2 - 2 should be enough. If you have some noise, check first the Light Samples and increase from 1 to 2.

It's very simple.

Save all your fp objects + their lines or surfaces that are

linked with, as a separate max file.

Delete them and then go to File->Reference->Xref Objects and

insert them again as xref.

This method makes all the rendering procedure "lighter".

Regarding rendering resolutions, just make a test:

for ex render at 1200x1200 and then take this image and

increase it's resolution with Topaz AI Gigapixel.

Also don't forget to denoise your renders with noice.exe,

the magic torch of arnold...

While reading my reply on the actual arnold answers website (not the email reply you might get), type "ctrl-f" then search for "log files" and you'll see a link for instructions for how to get the log file. Click on the MaxtoA link and follow those instructions.

Can forest pro actually use ASS files ? I can't find any info on this but it seems it doesn't work with ass files.

Or am I just doing something wrong ?
