I'm following other tutorials for the C4d, and they all have an Arnold IPR window that shows live updates in the viewport. Is this the same as 3ds Max's ActiveShade window? C4D & Arnold TUTORIAL - Moody Scenes using Atmosphere
There are no updates to the atmosphere map shown in ActiveShade. It requires the ActiveShade window to be closed and opened to for the changes to take place. Is there an actual Arnold IPR window for 3ds max?
It is quite cumbersome compared to some of the videos I am watching where all the Atmosphere Volume sliders are updating in realtime in the Arnold IPR window.
I wouldn't say it's the "same", but Active Shade is the IPR window for MAXtoA
The MtoA Arnold Render View is older and has a bit more development behind it. For MAXtoA, we're still improving the IPR...
ActiveShade supports all the incremental updates happening in the scene, except the ones related to the rendering options. Something we definitely want to fix.
Thanks Nicola and Stephen.
I'm still having massive issues working with Arnold, ActiveShade stability, and overall workflow. I will probably have to side grade to Vray or just keep using Octane until some of these issues are ironed out.
It's mostly the crashes that happen while in ActiveShade - but it would be really nice to have a real Arnold IPR that is hooked up as seamlessly to all the rendering options. Good luck!
As @Cale Oglesby said that ActiveShade very unstable.
Working with it's like to sit on the bomb... any time it may blow up. It only fits to simple scenes with couple of objects.
Would be nice if rendering error not cause crash of 3ds max.
Working with it open should not be a nerve-wracking experience. Wondering if the next incremental change is going to fail and crash.
It should be fun and rewarding instead of exploding and crashing Max to the desktop. The inability for options to save, report the error, or understand why it crashed - is unacceptable.
