Macro / Script in vbA for exporting Item List / bom from Drawing

Hi, i am just diving into AutoCad for integration to our ERP system, and would like to build a custom script, e.g. VBA code that can read a BOM table, and in two passes:

1. Build the multilevel item List

2. build the BOM list from the table

This would be formatted into our import file format, which i would the import using our import utility.

Any suggestions?  Is what I want even possible?
