Ambient alert to users from API

My plugin continually checks the design to ensure it meets specific expectations. When those expectations aren't met I would like to inform the user so they can make appropriate changes but using a MessageBox is too abrupt and would distract the user. Fusion often displays information in the bottom right corner of the screen, either little error messages or data about the selection a user has made. Is there some way to write to that or some other ambient alert from the API? 

I'm also open to clever solutions to this problem.

Unfortunately we haven't yet exposed access to any of the message mechanisms in Fusion except for the message box and a progress bar dialog.  I agree that we do need to expose some more capabilities in this area. Nothing is currently scheduled but I'll add an item to our backlog to track this and so it can get prioritized with the rest of our tasks.
