The futur of Autostudio

The futur of Autostudio

Hello everyone

Im Autostudio user since of numerous years .

I seen a lot of new 3D software that comes quickly as umake ... but alias Autostudio does'nt change ! on the contrary it becomes less accessible to neophytes.

My suggestion to include a new  process of quick modeling  as iLoveSketch in Autostudio .

apparently rights have acquired by Autodesk.

I hope this suggestion will have an echo at Autodesk.

Regards

Hello, your suggestion finds a big echo in Autodesk.

Currently the developer teams are doing huge efforts that unfortunately you cannot see so obviously.

They are working on modernizing the foundation in order to address problems with performance, UI, API, preferences, user experience, History, and others. Fixing these things require a lot of underlying work that has to be done first.

But this is not your concern and we understand it. That’s why we are introducing in the Tech Preview in one of our next releases workflows supporting

  • Generative design (Dynamo)
  • Subdivision Surfaces

With this we address conceptual design workflows. We want to allow 3d modeling without detailed knowledge in patch structuring and such in order to bring digital sculpting closer to conceptual design.

We also work on topics related to use VR in the design world and we will reveal there plans shortly.

Sounds all very interesting. But don't forget to pay a lot attention to the API. At least it should be possible to have a similar approach like Maya or Rhino, with Python an C++. Also the quality of the documentation is extremely important. I am 100% sure it will have an immense impact in the community of Alias if it will be as open as possible.

Hello Rossbau,

Thanks you for your reply

When you said "your suggestion finds a big echo in Autodesk"

You think about, include 3D sketching in Alias ?

And I also want to know, when you planning to introduce:

  • Generative design (Dynamo)
  • Subdivision Surfaces

I love Alias Studio, Most of Alias users are like me they use the software not for plans de form  but for concept design and actually the tools for concept design change its not just 2D sketching and nurbs modeling.

Now the 3D tools are more intuitive as Clayoo,T-spline, Umake ...

Please introduce new tools  in Alias and delete Render and Animation they are obsolete

And I wish you Good working on modernizing the foundation UI, API.

Hello,

Autodesk is watching and exploring the VR market. As you know, there is a lot going on. Technology and Input devices are changing rapidly and with this even the requirements of our clients. Autodesk won’t jump on each hype which has a good and a bad component - Ying/Yang.

Certainly 3D sketching is interesting and we are investigating into this. Our most important use scenario for VR is about the collaboration of the stylist and the digital sculptor using the world of VR.

Creating designs in VR with 3d sketching techniques is another use scenario that we are dealing with.

Since the demand of such in the industry is high we push a lot for it, but I cannot make an announcement when we will introduce it in our software.

We understand that Concept design is not just 2D sketching and NURBS-modeling only. Technologies like generative design and using Subdivision Surfaces in the modeling process will impact the design process a lot and Alias will be prepared for this. We are working on both and will introduce both in Alias, but I cannot make an announcement about the timing.

You also mentioned API and UI and foundation. These things are exactly the points that we address with the project of Alias Modernization.

It is quite a challenge.

Hello Rossbau,

It's good to talk to you.

sound Good The way of Alias,

I'm not sure, when you're talking about generative design and subdivision surfaces

Is it inside Autostudio ? not in speedform or in other programs?

You cannot make an announcement about the timing.

before 2020?

Hello,

Since Autodesk is following American business rules for accounting and balancing, a talking about release timeframes or any other timing regarding the content of products is strictly forbidden.

We are hearing from customers the strong desire to have subdivision surface technology inside of alias since it makes sense to do any kind of modeling in one software.

Generative design is here a bit different since it offers a complete new way of design. A tight integration sounds promising.

Hello the new changing you are waiting is came from Catia with the development of Catia V6.There is a module named 3d sketch. It is developed version of I love sketch I think. As an Alias fan I wish that Autodesk company have developed it and we were using it in alias

or sketchbook pro :(((    Lets wait ....

Hello Rossbau,

I just saw the new version of Alias 2019

VR ok, Dynamo ok, but for TS subdivision ???

Finally you have abandoned the idea of integrating TS IN ALIAS

it's political or it's a matter of time ???

Autodesk

Hello

Discussing TS in Alias touches the point of having an easy geometry element to do fast concept modeling.

Such elements usually come from the areas of polygons. Autodesk decided here for Subdivision Surfaces. In comparison with T-splines experiences showed us that the clients prefer the use of Subdivision Surfaces.

Autodesk is already busy to enable this data model in Alias fully and integrating tools to manipulate/create those data. To be absolute specific and correct: I am talking about Subdivision Surfaces and not T-splines.

The background is to enable a concept modeling with more “amorphous” geometry than NURBS ever can be.

Autodesk is working on it with full power.

Kind Regards

Hello Rossbau,

Thank you and congratulations for your fantastic SUBDS work in Alias 2020
I downloaded the trial version and quickly modeled SUBDS forms,
because it's the same work process as the nurbs
Still BRAVO to you and to the whole AUTODESK team.
PS:
I enclose an image that may interest you and who knows I hope, find another echo at AUTODESK.

Hi, since it is a team effort, I will send your message to everybody belonging to the team. It’s a very encouraging message. Thank you for that!
I do hope that your image finds it's way the echo you are looking for. Let’s see. In any case. We are happy that you find a good access to the new subd tools.

All the Best

Julien R,
you created a menu in the hardware shade panel for GPU raytracing and put an “X” thru the current render menu.
Might be a way to go would be a tighter connection to VRED like we showed at AIF in Munich?
If this is your intention - understood.

Hello Uwe.

With your incredible work of SUBDS, Alias takes back is leadership in 3D modeling tools

I think ALIAS need to be simplify , remove dust.
rendering modules or animation are obsolète other software do it much better.
Alias need to keep the essentiel of is power with is modeling process and is fabulous real-time visualization.
The idea I propose goes in the same direction as the SUBDS for modeling.
Alias real-time engine enhancement with a simple
GPU raytracing.

VRED is also a super real-time engine, but it make the double with Alias (confrontation)

A tighter pipeline betweennd Alias and VRED is very interesting, but it will need to remove the real time of Alias so as not to stack the same functions.

I do not know the political issues of Autodesk
it's just my simple user opinion.

all the best.

Hi Julien,

there is another dependency beside the technical view on just Alias - the business side of the entire Autodesk company, not only Alias.

Best Wishes
